How the duvet cover is coming along!

Well, I had hoped to get the duvet cover for daughter #2 finished up this wkend...however like most projects, it is taking longer than I had anticipated.  Here is how it is looking so far...the 4 strips on the far right are sewen together, the others are going to have to wait until after school and the gym tomorrow night!  Hope she likes how it is turning out.  I am planning to make some toss pillows for her to go with it.  It is all still her Christmas present, and seeing as her birthday is Valentine's Day, I'd better hurry to get this done before her birthday rolls around!

Here is the next apron swap I've signed up for! It's closed for sign-ups, but I'll post pictures when I get things done for it!

oops...TODAY is Thursday!

Sweater flower-pin
Somehow I managed to make yesterday Thursday....and confused my dad who was reading my blog today.  Must have been because this week has been so hectic!  So, here's a picture of me wearing the nifty flower that I made with the ribbing from last night's sweater-pillow project.  A 5 minute...NO KIDDING...little number!  Instructions are in the web site posted above.

My apron swap-sister got here parcel from me today...I think she liked everything.  Yay!  I can't wait to get MY parcel.

Thrift store finds on a Thursday

Well, tonight when I was supposed to be working on Miss Melle's duvet cover (which I started to) I got distracted by some sweaters I'd picked up at the local Neat Repeat.  Two were gorgeous cream 100% wool, and one was a Fair Isle cotton number.  I'd bought them with the idea of making pillow covers, which I did.  You can find the instructions @ http://brassyapple.blogspot.com/2011/01/diy-sweater-pillows-cozy-up.html She has really good instructions...plus her pillows look alot spiffier than mine...but mine were fun to make!  Notice I re-attached the Pendelton label on the front pillow (that's so you'd know it was made from real wool!)  Then I had the brain wave of using the sleeve from the fair-isle sweater to make a little sweater for my travel cup!  Notice how in the bottom photo the trael mug mysteriously appears on the table behind the pillows.  One must always match their living room toss pillows with their travel mugs!

Monday night while hubby is @ hockey

Ok.  I know I already put pictures up today...but this is just such a novelty right now that I have to throw in a couple more.  Whipped up these two little owl pin cushions last night...they are so cute!  Found the instructions on-line...and when I relocate them them I will put up the web site in case someone else wants to make them!

And here are the fabrics for the afore mentioned duet cover for daughter#2.  She likes retro-vintagey type of decorating...I especially liked the gold chenille in the right corner...found at a flea market.  More photos when it's all done!

My Offspring

I was browsing through old photos the other day and found this one of my two gorgeous (well...I am biased!) daughters.  Sarah is on left and Melle on right in the top photo.  Fast forward a few years and now they are reversed!  Sarah is the older sister, Melle aka daughter #2 is responsible for the design work on my blog.  The final photo is the girls and I with my father 2 Christmases ago in the Toronto Eaton Centre.  Did you notice the pink coat?  I absolutely love it...wore it just today!

Wonderful Weekend

Finished up my apron for the swap!  It's reversible!  So practical (I think...get one side grubby, turn it over and voila...fresh apron!)  Hope my swap partner likes it.

Also bought a new kitchen appliance this wkend...it's a single serving coffee maker.  I ran into a friend in Walmart, who convinced me that life would never be the same after this investment.  Well, she was right!  This is the greatest little invention...you always have fresh, hot...(really hot) coffee.  My hubby also agrees that this is worth the counter space.

While out shopping I bought myself some pretty pink carnations...one of those little $5 bundles at the grocery store.  Hubby buys flowers for special occasions....but now and then I like to see fresh flowers just because.  I think they look cute in my stemless wine glasses!

Matt and I took a little drive up to Thermopolis today to soak in the hot springs.  They have lots of deer eating up the town's trees....but are cute to take pictures of.  This little guy was very curious to see what I was doing.

Thrills on a Thursday!

Oh my gosh!  I just opened up by blog to find that my very talented daughter #2 has been here and given my blog a whole new design! YAY!!  A zillion thanks to Miss Melle!!  It's so me, I can hardly believe I didn't do it myself.  (But I didn't!)

I am going to be zipping around on the weekend...finding the "tuck-ins" for the apron swap, and finishing off the apron.  Pictures coming soon.  I also need to finish up daughter#2's Christmas present....she asked for a new duvet cover, and I gave her a bag of fabric for Christmas.  Told her it would be done soon....well it is still on the sewing table.  However, seeing as she has done what I asked her....in just a day....I'd better finish up my committment to her and get the duvet done.

Starting my Blog!!

I am so excited to be starting a blog!  Recently I've started to read several blogs by probably younger people than myself, mostly females.  They seem to find time to write about their exciting (and sometimes not so exciting) days, post pictures of things they have seen or are doing or wearing!  So here I go, venturing into the land of the blogger....wish me luck!  I need to figure out how to add pictures, and all the other things that people seem to have on their blogs!

I have just also joined a "swap" for the first time.  This one is an apron swap which I will try to put up a link to.  http://flirtyapronswap.blogspot.com/search?q=mumsiemusings  OK!!! I think I've done it!! Yay!

So now I have to go home and start on my fabulous apron which I will post photos of soon!
